In the vibrant heart of Kuala Lumpur, the year 2023 marked a pivotal moment for the Malaysian illustration scene, as we proudly co-organized the KL Illustration Fair (KLIF). This immersive experience not only showcased our artistic endeavors but also aimed to cultivate and elevate the local illustration community.
The Journey of Co-Creation
As co-organizers, our fingerprints were on every facet of KLIF 2023. From handpicking talented artists and crafting captivating branding to orchestrating the logistics and operations, our involvement ran deep. Beyond the organizational roles, we took center stage as exhibitors, unveiling our latest projects and offering an array of merchandise. KLIF became an arena where we could engage with fans, clients, and fellow artists, while also discovering emerging talents.
Highlights
A defining feature of KLIF 2023 was the illustrious conference. We brought together influential illustrators from around the globe to share insights, experiences, and tips. Jackson Tan from Singapore, Viput A from Thailand, Steven Choi from Hong Kong, Ardhiria Putra from Indonesia—the lineup was a testament to the diverse perspectives we aimed to foster. Attendees gained invaluable advice on style development, portfolio curation, idea pitching, and networking.
The business matching session emerged as another highlight, offering a rare opportunity for artists to connect with potential employers—publishers, agencies, studios, and brands. These exclusive meetings facilitated the showcase of skills, opening doors to new opportunities and collaborations.
Lasting Impression
KLIF 2023 surpassed expectations, drawing over 3700 visitors and achieving over RM 200,000 in transactional sales. Yet, success extended beyond numbers—it resonated in the positive feedback echoing through the illustration community. Artists, attendees, and media alike lauded the event for its quality artworks, the professionalism of organizers, and the overall vibrant atmosphere.
