We Need an Aesthetic Revolution

I often look at old posters, vintage packaging, and mid-century illustrations and wonder:
When did we decide that the digital world should look this lifeless?

Decades ago, major brands and publishers commissioned legendary artists to craft visuals by hand.
They didn’t just want to fill a layout; they wanted to make a cultural statement.

They understood that the visuals they put out into the world shaped human taste. Even Malaysia Airlines has their own custom fonts.

Fast forward to today, and our digital feeds are drowning in automated garbage.
Algorithms and uncurated AI generators pump out endless streams of hyper-polished, soul-less, uncanny “slop.”

We focus so much on speed and volume that we’ve completely forgotten about human touch. We live in an era of generic, prompt-engineered visuals that leave absolutely no impression on the human psyche.

I’m tired of it.

My team is tired of it.

When I look at the creative landscape today, I realize we aren’t just producing content anymore.
We are in the middle of an aesthetic revolution.

And it’s time for visionaries to stop hiding behind automated shortcuts and start funding real artistry.

The True Cost of AI Slop

When a brand relies on generic, automated visuals, they think they are saving money and maximizing efficiency. But what they are actually doing is paying to be invisible.

Audiences today are hyper-stimulated and deeply cynical.

They can spot a low-effort AI asset from a mile away.
If your marketing visuals look like a generic algorithmic output, your audience treats your brand like a commodity, easily scrolled past, easily forgotten.

But when a business dares to inject raw creative charm, human error, and unique artistic identity into their campaigns, something shifts.
They stop being background noise.
They become a landmark.
They become part of the cultural conversation.

When we pitch an “unconventional” direction, I’m not just trying to make a pretty drawing.

I am trying to defend visual literacy.
My personal philosophy and the driving force behind Studio Behind 90 and Studio Beyond is that we are here to produce great visuals that shape a generational sense of style.

Think about it: digital platforms and modern brands have a massive visual footprint.

Your feeds, your ads, and your products are seen by millions of people every single day.

You have more power to influence public taste than any art gallery or museum. In a world flooded with synthetic noise, your choice to use authentic art is a radical act.

That is an immense responsibility, but it’s also a massive commercial opportunity.
When you invest capital into good illustration, you aren’t just buying marketing decorations.

You are investing in your brand’s long-term intellectual property.

You are creating human icons, characters, and visual worlds that people will remember for decades.

This revolution isn’t for the faint-hearted.
It requires leaders who have the guts to stand up in a boardroom and say, “We refuse to let an algorithm define our identity.”

It means trusting human artists to push your boundaries, embracing the messy friction of the creative process, and allowing your brand to have an actual, unmistakable personality

If you are a CMO, a founder, or a marketing director who wants to do more than just hit a quarterly volume target, if you want to stand out against the wave of digital mediocrity, stop playing it safe.

Bring your capital, bring your business challenges, and let’s fund an aesthetic revolution together.
